This Global Walk Outside | Day 7: South Asia
My favorite thing about my outdoor space, especially in the morning, is the view. Due to the city being so compact, many people their outside view is the next door building. We are thankful to see green.
Our favorite thing about our flat is our balcony. It is unusual to have a balcony in apartments in our city. We use it for everything—from bbq-ing, to laundry drying, and even as a “pop-up” swimming pool for our son during lockdown.
The worst thing about our flat is the noise. Our flat faces the main street; everyday we can hear the traffic. Also we hear random gun noise that is used to scare the pigeons away. Also, during big festival seasons, it’s so loud, and you can hear the parades and all the firecrackers.
Our back gate alley. I love spending time taking my son with his bike going up and down the alley.
(Left Photo) Many of our neighbors use this space as a place to exercise. Some come in the morning but many come during the evening. It has a great view of the city as well as the sea.
(Right Photo) I can sit and watch the view for a long time. It is also a reminder to pray for the people of the city.
To compensate for the lack of outdoor space we have local parks. Many people go to exercise or just to enjoy the greenery. Our park is about a five minutes rickshaw ride from our flat. It’s the most green, and has lots of grass area for kids to play.
To get to the metro station, we have to brave the crazy traffic.
Another favorite outdoor space other than the park is the beach. We live about 10 minutes from the beach and it’s a favorite spot for my family.
Thank you for taking this global walk outside!
